Kling 4.0 vs Kling 4.0 Flash
Kuaishou is shipping two tiers, and the headline specs belong to the full model, not to Flash:
| Kling 4.0 Flash | Kling 4.0 (full) | |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Early access since Sept 28, 2026 | Announced for October 2026 |
| Clip length | 3-20 seconds | Up to 30 seconds |
| Resolution | 720p | Up to 4K |
| Color | 8-bit SDR | 10-bit HDR |
| Audio | Native stereo audio announced | |
| Control | Up to 10 keyframe images to steer a generation | |
Early access went to a restricted group of Kling subscribers on the consumer platform. That is typical for Kuaishou: the web app gets a model first, the API follows once capacity allows.
What is actually new
- Length: 30 seconds in one generation is three times the 10-second ceiling of Kling 3. Only a few models reach that today, including Seedance 2.5.
- Keyframes: steering a clip with up to 10 reference frames moves Kling toward shot-by-shot direction rather than single-prompt generation.
- Audio: Kling 3 sells audio only as a pricier tier on some providers, and returns silent clips on VideoGenAPI. Native stereo audio closes the gap with Veo 3 and MiniMax H3.
- 4K HDR: relevant for broadcast and large screens, less so for social feeds that recompress everything.
What to use until the API is available
For production today, Kling 3 is still the reference for human motion and camera control, and it is included in VideoGenAPI plans. If you need what Kling 4.0 promises before it ships:
- Longer clips: Seedance 2.5 (up to 30 seconds) or MiniMax H3 (up to 15 seconds).
- Native audio: Veo 3 Fast or MiniMax H3.
- 4K: LTX-2, the open model with 4K output.
Preparing your integration
If you already call Kling 3 through a multi-model API, adopting Kling 4.0 should be a model-key change once it is exposed. Two things are worth doing now:
- Make duration configurable rather than hard-coding 5 or 10 seconds, since Kling 4.0 Flash accepts any length from 3 to 20 seconds.
- Plan for longer waits. Kling 3 already averages around four minutes; a 30-second 4K clip will take longer. Background jobs and polling beat holding an HTTP request open.
We will add Kling 4.0 to the model catalog when API access opens. For how Kling compares today, see Kling 3 vs Veo 3 vs Seedance.
